Our Journey

Welcome to Surrendering to Stones - where spirit and culture blend seamlessly into art.

Surrendering to Stones was born from a journey of trust, intuition and deep surrender to an unexpected twist within our life's path. Our story began in the heart of crystal collecting and selling over the span of a decade - that was guided by a respect for the natural world and its gifts to us.

In late 2024, we were offered the opportunity to purchase an incredible collection of hundreds of authentic Shona Sculptures - hand-carved, spiritual creations from the heart of Zimbabwe.

This moment was a turning point and it was as if the stones themselves were speaking, inviting us into a new phase of our journey.

We listened. We trusted. We surrendered.

And so, Surrendering to Stones was born.

Opening our doors in May 2025, we invite you into a space where cultural tradition meets modern souls. A space where each stones both holds and tells a story. A space where surrender leads to profound beauty.

OUR VISION

We exist to celebrate the profound relationship between humans and stone - a connection as ancient as time itself.

Our mission is simple yet heartfelt; to share the beauty, spirit and cultural richness of Zimbabwean Shona Art with our community here in Toowoomba, QLD and its surrounds.

Through these incredible sculptures, we hope to offer more than just art; we hope to offer connection, inspiration, and a portal into a tradition that honours Earth, creativity along with the human spirit.

WHAT WE OFFER

Surrendering to Stones specialises in authentic Shona Sculptures - hand-carved by talented Zimbabwean artists using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. These sculptures are more than decorative pieces; they are living expressions of spirit, emotion and connection.

Carved from locally sourced Serpentine, Butter Jade, Verdite, and other Zimbabwean stones, the sculptures exude a grounded energy - a physical reminder of the deep wisdom held within the Earth.

In the near future, we also plan to expand and include our offerings to include crystals once again, weaving together the energies of both raw and carved stones in a harmonious celebration of our origin and future.

WHY SHONA SCULPTURES?

The Shona people of Zimbabwe have a long and proud tradition of stone carving, stretching back over a thousand years. Shona art is renowned worldwide for its fluid forms, emotional depth and spiritual themes.

Each sculpture is an intimate conversation between artist and stone - a process of surrender, trust and co-creation.

When we first encountered Shona Sculptures in person, we were moved beyond words. The stones seemed to breathe and pulse with a life and meaning of their own, and each one carries the heartbeat of Zimbabwe - its land, its history and its soul.

By bringing these powerful works of art to Australia, we are honoured to offer a small but meaningful glimpse into the spirit of Zimbabwean culture. It is our heartfelt intention to respectfully represent the artists and traditions behind these works, sharing their beauty with integrity and reverence.

We are thrilled to weave a small thread into the rich tapestry of our region, offering something that is both ancient and timeless, deeply grounded and profoundly uplifting.

Whether you are local to Toowoomba or its surrounds, or connecting with us online, we invite you to journey with us into the world of the Shona Sculpture - and possibly discovering a piece that speaks directly to your own soul.

THE HEART OF SURRENDER

The name Surrendering to Stones was not chosen lightly. It emerged organically from our own path - from that pivotal moment when we let go of rigid plans, surrendered to a new calling, and opened our hearts to the unknown.

In surrendering to the stones, we surrendered to spirit. We surrendered to the timeless wisdom held within the Earth. We surrendered to the flow of life, trusting that it would lead us somewhere beautiful - and it has.

Every piece we offer is a reminder of that trust. A reminder that sometimes, the most beautiful journeys begin when we let go of control and allow ourselves to be led by the deeper currents of life.
